Just under two weeks ago, a few of us took a trip to Moreton Island. It was so fun! Here's Hayden (our tour guide) at the Bond pick-up point.
He drove us to Brisbane where we dropped off the people who were going to Fraiser Island and headed off to catch the ferry to Moreton. Here's the view from the back of the ferry.
The shipwreck near the island. We were supposed to snorkel it, but apparently the water was too rough. I was okay with it because we got to sleep a couple of extra hours, and it kinda looked like tetanus waiting to happen, anyway.
First glances of the island.
Off-roading to the campsite! Veryyyyy bumby. I can't believe i even got a picture.
In the vehicle with Alex and Matt.
Getting psyched for sand surfing.
Praying mantis! I haven't seen one of these since I was tiny!
Checkin the praying mantis out...
The posse. Me, Tyler, Matt, Alex, Dee, Coree.
Me, Dee, and Coree.
A couple shots of us going down the hill. This sounds horrible, but I actually only went down twice. I really felt like I was in the Sahara trucking up that hill. Every step you take, you fall like halfway back to where you started. It's craziness! I don't think anyone did more than three runs! They need a chairlift...
Next, we went back to the beach. This is Hayden, our tour guide, digging with his feet like the Aboriginals do to find mollusks.
Coree... getting psyched up to eat it. She chickened out, but one of the French boys ate two of them! Gross! I guess when you're used to les escargots...
Back on the "road"...
Hayden stops us again...
This is actually a fresh water drainage. We filled out water bottles from it! It tasted good when we were really hot and thirsty, but I tried to drink it again later and it was absolutely awful.
On the road again...
Next we stopped at a lighthouse and beautiful overlook. These shots are pretty self-explanatory.
The tour guides:
Back on the road, but this time the tide was all the way in! Every once in a while Hayden would get out and try to decide if we could make it across or not. Nuts.
We found a starfish!
We got back to camp in one piece, and headed back out to the beach near our site to watch the sunset. This is the path out to the beach.
I think this is my favorite picture from the trip. You can't tell we're tired or anything...
A bunch of French boys trying to learn how to play cricket from an eccentric Aussie tour guide=hilarious.
Some sunset pictures:
After the sunset, we went back to camp for dinner and a campfire.
The French boys got extremely rambunctious when we tried to teach them an American drinking game, Kings.
We went back to the beach for a little while...
Bedtime for Stephanie, Matt, and Coree!
The next morning, we had a run-in with poisonous wildlife.
Yes, this is a scorpion.
Instead of snorkeling the shipwreck, they made us climb more huge hills!
Then they brought us to another beach for surfing, etc.
Coree and Tyler went hunting for wild passion fruit:
Then, they brought us to a freshwater lagoon for lunch and relaxation:
Gearing up for some more off-roading adventures...
When we got back to camp, it was time to pack up. The guides suggested we walk to the ferry and they would meet us down there. It was sooo windy! You can see the sand swirling around and the distance to the ferry! Not a short walk!
Eventually, it started to rain and we had to go back to the camp so they could drive us down. I tried to hitchhike, but it didn't work! haha
Finally, we made it back to the ferry and headed home. I look exhausted!
So, I think I may have put these up out of order... sorry! I can't really remember when everything happened anymore! I promise I'll post the Whitsundays trip soon!
